A traditional 2 year ryegrass and red clover ley. Greater use of clovers is key to higher protein forages, thus reducing expensive bought in protein sources like soya. Care is needed when mowing as conditioning can result in loss of a lot of the red clover leaf. First cut from early May with regular cutting at 6 – 8 weekly intervals to avoid the red clover going ‘stemmy’. This mix will deliver high yields with reduced, or even no, artificial Nitrogen.
